- Amur (Siberian) - Currently about 250 breeding adults in the wild.
- Bengal - Estimated to have about 2,500 individuals remaining in the wild.
- Indo-Chinese - Estimated to have a total of 350 individuals in the wild.
- Malayan - Approximately 500 wild individuals remaining.
- South China - Believed to be functionally extinct. Currently 47 in captivity.
- Sumatran - Between 400 and 500 individuals remaining in the wild.
Extinct subspecies:
- Balinese - The last one killed in 1937.
- Caspian - Last sighting in the 1970s.
- Javan - Last seen in 1979.
